Sensei Keni-Duke Hetet (4th Dan)
My martial arts journey began as a 12 year old, having been inspired by Bruce Lee movies from the 1970’s. I started training in Taekwondo in my local town in the North Island and reached the level of green belt at 16, grading under Grandmaster Willy Lim in Hamilton. At 18 years old I was coached in boxing and kickboxing by taekwondo black belt Oscar Emery. I started Karate in Dunedin in 2001, before moving to Nelson in 2003 where I began training at the Nelson Shibu under Eiko Hanshi Andy Barber.
Over the years I have gained experience in other forms of martial arts and close quarter combat including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In my spare time I enjoy surfing, hunting, playing music and spending time with my family.
